What is the Anglo-Japanese Radiological Association?
The Anglo-Japanese Radiological Association (AJRA) is an organization which promotes close friendship and cooperation between British and Japanese Radiologists under the auspices of the Japanese Radiological Society and the Royal College of Radiologists in the U.K.
AJRA scholarships:
The AJRA offers scholarships to British medical students wishing to take an elective course in radiology in Japan. They provide opportunities for British medical students to learn how diagnostic and interventional radiology is practiced in Japan and to experience Japanese culture.

Amount of scholarship
100,000 Yen (equivalent of approx. 450 Sterling Pounds)
Number of scholarships available
Three students will be accepted each year, but more than one student cannot be accepted from one medical school. For example, if three students from the same medical school apply for this scholarship, only one of them will be accepted after a careful selection procedure.
Eligibility
Medical students studying at UK medical schools
An ability to speak Japanese is NOT required, as doctors in Japan are able to communicate in English. However, if you can speak some Japanese it will be beneficial for your stay in Japan.

Application deadline
Application is open throughout the each academic year, but it will be closed at the time when all three scholarships are allocated to successful applicants. The results of application process will be published online.
Application process
- Applicants should send their application forms to the AJRA administration office.
- The AJRA administration office will enquire whether or not the institutions selected by applicants are prepared to accept them as elective students.
- If an application is successful, applicants will hear from the chairperson of the institution to which they applied. If application is unsuccessful, applicants will be notified by the AJRA administration office.
Once your application is accepted.
Please contact the chairperson of the institution where you will carry out your elective programme and discuss such matters as contents and the length of your stay, and availability of accommodation.
Payment of the scholarship.
On arrival in Japan, you will receive \100,000 (One hundred thousand Japanese Yen).
Submission of feedback report.
At the end of your elective programme, applicants are required to fill out the " feedback report ", which can be downloaded from this link , and send it to AJRA administration office. The contents of your feedback report will be published in the AJRA News Letter and the AJRA homepage. Applicants wishing their report to be kept confidential should indicate this in their feedback report.
